"Implanting" prints into fabric. Master class / Materials, equipment and tools / SECOND STREET
Text of the author: “If you need a dense piece of fabric with a specific pattern and water-repellent properties, then I have an idea, and this is not a workshop at all (to be honest)!
It will be required:
- White fabric (e. g. calico);laser-printed image;acrylic lacquer;brush;foam sponge;roller for gluing wallpapers (you can do without). name="cut"/>
Fold the fabric on a flat surface pre-coated with film, as you are guaranteed to stain it with varnish. Brush abundantly apply acrylic varnish to the fabric.
Without wasting time, apply varnish to the paper with the image, abundantly covering the front side, i. e. right in the picture.
Now it is necessary to impose the printout “face down” on the fabric (actually stick it). In decoupage jargon, this manipulation is called "face-varnish." Be sure to check that there are no creases or folds on the fabric, even a small “wave” can spoil the final result. For reliable bonding of fabric and paper over the entire surface, you can roll with a wallpaper roller, or with a rubber spatula, or whatever is at your fingertips.
Now, carefully, so that there are no creases, turn the paper upside down. It is advisable to put this “sandwich” on a clean, not stained with varnish. For reliability, you can go through the varnish on the fabric from the side of the future wrong side.
And now came the most difficult moment in the job - to endure at least 4 hours before the varnish dries. When this moment is over, take a foam sponge and a curious boy (you can do without it, but I had one), moisten the sponge with water and wipe it with sticky paper. Let the water soak.
Then you or a boy (I had it, it’s very convenient) rub with a sponge on the paper, which starts to roll and gradually open the varnish layer with the “imprinted” picture in it. Wash the paper without much zeal, although if there was enough varnish and the paper was firmly stuck to the fabric everywhere, you won’t erase the image.
Retreat: since the use of child labor under the Labor Code is prohibited; let the boy’s participation in the work remain between us.
Rub the image with a sponge until paper spools appear, then leave to dry and repeat the procedure in those places where there will be a whitish coating.
When the paper layer is completely removed, dry your fabric.
Done! The resulting fabric...
... use at your discretion.
P. S. the image on the fabric will be mirrored on the image on paper, therefore, when printing, “mirror” the image if it is important to you, as is the case with transferring text to the fabric.
