Urban Decay Born to Run Palette Review
Urban Decay’s Born to Run collection is inspired by a sense of adventure, worldwide travel and spontaneous road trips into the sunset. When Urban Decay sent me this beautiful new collection, it made me daydream about the most beautiful places I’ve traveled to.
The most beautiful, by far, is Santorini, Greece.
However, I actually find where I live, Iowa, one of the most beautiful places. It’s good that I do since I work 6-7 days a week and don’t travel often. But seriously, if you haven’t been, a summer night in Iowa really can’t be beat.
Every time I sit on my deck with a glass of wine and watch the sun setting over a field of horses, reflecting off a still pond with geese gliding across it, I take a moment to appreciate just how truly beautiful my own home state really is. Ahh.
Now back to the other love of my life, makeup.
The Born to Run collection includes:
- 3 new shades of their Vice lipstick formula 3 new 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils Mini All Nighter Setting Spray in special packaging 21 shade eyeshadow palette.
Urban Decay Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette, $49
Packaging
Just my personal preference but the packaging design doesn’t do it for me. It just reminds me of someone’s amateur vacation photos printed on matte paper. It’s a departure for Urban Decay so maybe I’m just not used to the more photo-centric look.
I definitely appreciate the nice, wide mirror and the ability for the palette to lay flat.
Shade Range
The eyeshadow palette has a fully comprehensive shade range. It truly is a one stop shop for nearly any eye look you want to create. Though the size isn’t travel-friendly, the shade range would allow for you to take just this one palette on a trip and be set.
I love the variety of matte and shimmer finishes and the inclusions of a dark brown and black as every palette needs those to be fully functional in my opinion.
Standout shades
- Still Shot is a really unique matte peach Hell Ride is a gorgeous matte berry Blaze is peachy champagne duo chrome Punk is a warm red brown matte that I love and find similar to ABH’s Fudge
Formula
I really love this eyeshadow formula. After several just ok, and sometimes even disappointing palette releases from Urban Decay, I consider this palette a return to the quality we expect and love from Urban Decay. Instead of the Born to Run palette, I prefer to call it the Comeback palette. The shadows are easy to work with, blending out very easily and with virtually no fallout. It’s actually almost Weird how little fall out I experienced! The mattes blend out smoothly, the shimmers build up nicely and they are all a pigment load that feels just right.
Wear
I always prime with the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden (I literally have not skipped this step since 2012,) so as long as I do that, no issues with fading or creasing.Value
If you just want to buy 1 palette this year, for $49, this should be it. Please, spend the extra money on this one instead of a Morphe palette. It’s worth it and you’ll be glad you did, I promise.
3 new Vice Lipstick shades
From left: Marfa, Ready?, 66
I love the Vice Lipsticks and These are 3 unique and versatile shade additions to the line.
Ready? is an early favorite because I really don’t have anything like this sparkly, semi-sheer rose in my collection.
I also really love 66 because it’s a very wearable, mid-tone mauve that reminds me of the other great Vice lipstick shade, Backtalk.
I haven’t used Marfa but plan to in the fall since it’s a deep berry shade.
Here’s a look I did with the Urban Decay Born to Run collection. Watch my Video tutorial if you want to see how and read below for the look breakdown.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation in 3.0
Double Take, Party Foul from Urban Decay Backtalk Palette
What I liked
- The Born to Run palette is truly comprehensive and versatile. The eyeshadow formula is very easy to work with and gives beautiful results. No shadow fallout whatsoever! The new Vice lipstick shades are unique, wearable and fun. I like the warm metallic brown shades of Lucky and Double Life of the 24/7 liners.
What I didn’t
- The overall packaging design isn’t my aesthetic. The eyeshadow palette would be Truly perfect if we could swap out one of the greens or the blue for a more rose gold shimmer or if the black was a true matte black instead of shimmer. I won’t use the greens or blue in the shadow palette because I don’t find them flattering on my eye color. I won’t use the green Overdrive liner for the same reason above.
Do I recommend the Urban Decay Born to Run Palette?
Absolutely I do. The Born to Run palette is a very high quality, complete eyeshadow palette that will serve you well for a fair price.Do I recommend the Urban Decay Born to Run Vice Lipstick shades?
I love 66 and Ready? and Marfa could be fun for fall but on my skin tone, I likely won’t reach for it as much.
Do I recommend the Urban Decay Born to Run new 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil shades?
The formula is the same excellent 24/7 pencil one you know and love so rest assured, they perform just as well. You don’t need all 3 shades though. I would choose Double Life. Both it and Lucky are warm, metallic browns that can be worn smudged out as a cream shadow, on the top or bottom lash line and in the waterline.
I would skip Overdrive, unless you have deep brown eyes and enjoy playing with color, I don’t think anyone really Needs a green eyeliner.
