GLAMOUR columnist Jen Atkin reveals the essential hair detox everyone needs to do ahead of summer

- мая 25, 2019

With summer just around the corner, we're switching up our beauty regimes and refreshing our wardrobes to welcome in the sunshine. But if you've forgotten to give your hair some love after the long, cold winter, now's the time to get it in tip-top condition.

If you've just checked your reflection in the office loos and realised that yes, your locks are looking a little dry, frizzy or lacklustre, worry not: our resident hair columnist, Jen Atkin, who works with the Kardashian-Jenner crew, has a foolproof guide to regenerating your hair in time for summer.

Scroll ahead for Jen's definitive guide to beating all your #winterhairproblems and nourishing it back to happy, shiny health.

Start with a nourishing treatment

To repair your hair after the winter, use the OUAI Treatment Masque at least once a week for deep restoration. Also, the OUAI Hair Oil can also double as both a styling product and mask, so that you can wear it while you sleep or work out for extra treatment and shine.

Master a conditioning technique

If you’re crunched for time, apply the OUAI Treatment Masque to your strands pre-workout and braid in to let the nourishing ingredients absorb into the hair with the added heat from your exercise. The masque is designed to smooth frizz and combat the damage of constant heat styling or chemical damage, leaving strands soft and smooth after just one use.

Then, use the OUAI Leave In Conditioner. It’s a hydrating pre-style spray that also acts as a detangler and heat protectant for frizz-free hair. I love anything that gets you out of the door faster, and this spray leaves hair smooth and sleek. Mist onto damp hair prior to brushing and/or heat styling for added conditioning, thermal protection, and frizz free hair!

Invest in a silk pillowcase

I suggest sleeping on a SLIP Pure Silk Pillowcase to keep the hair in the best possible condition. Use a microfibre towel or cotton t-shirt to squeeze any moisture out! Terry cloth towels strip hair of too much moisture and cause frizz. The whole reason I even started a haircare line is because I really strongly believe that you won't see changes in your hair by just doing external remedies.

Remember to take care of your body too

You need to do internal as well. For years I was sending clients to the health food store to get biotin and fish oil pills. The dry hair supplements contain silica which is great for achieving smooth and silky strands, vitamin E, and omega 3's to help build strong strands. The thin hair formula includes ashwagandha extract which is great at reducing stress levels (a major contributor to hair loss), and niacin to help prevent blockage of cholesterol at the pores. As for the oil formula, green tea serves as a key ingredient that balances oily glands.

Follow these 3 essential steps for repairing winter hair

Firstly, use the OUAI Treatment Masque or Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector weekly for super smooth hair. Olaplex is great for delivering protein into the hair before and after any chemical treatments. Many salons will carry it so you can ask your colourist to have it added to your colour for extra protection. Getting a healthy trim once every 3 months will definitely help as well!

Lobs are the hottest haircut for summer

Right now I love the look of soft, shaggy layers with a textured fringe. It’s a great way to transition out of a shorter cut or hide grown-out roots if you have them. Tell your stylist you want a lot of movement and texture, especially towards the ends and in the fringe. It also helps to show your stylist screenshots of looks that you like, as long as they’re of someone with similar texture/length to yours.
