This Dietitian Says Pizza Is A Healthier Breakfast Than Cereal
If bottles of champagne and (perhaps too many) rounds of margaritas are a Saturday-night ritual, then hungover morning-after pizza is its counterpart.
Reheating (or eating cold, no judgment) pizza the morning after a night out is a tried-and-tested cure for any post-alcoholic fog. But, according to a dietician, it's also good for your diet.
Dietitian and food blogger Chelsey Amer spoke to The Evening Standard, revealing that pizza might actually be healthier than other breakfast mainstays including cereal.
Amer's interview revealed, "you may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories."
While cereal is a more traditional breakfast food, "pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning."
Toppings and cereal varieties also come into play, of course. High-sugar cereals with full-milk sit lower on the health scale, while wholegrain cereal topped with fruit and a non-full cream milk is better for your diet.
"Ultimately it depends on your cereal choice. If you're choosing a wholegrain cereal which is high in fibre then that's always a good choice," says dietitian Priya Tew.
However, pizza is still a good option… if you forgo the Pepperoni Classic.
"It really depends what you put on it. If you have a pizza that is heavily laden with cheese and pepperoni than that's not a good decision," says Tew, "But if it has lots of vegetables then it could be a good option."
