The Mulan Live-Action Trailer Is Here

- июня 09, 2019

It’s been more than 20 years since Disney’s animated musical Mulan hit theatres, and now the teaser trailer for its live-action reboot, coming Spring 2020, has arrived—and it’s officially all grown up. Gone are the original movie’s iconic musical numbers—“who is that girl I see, staring straight, back at me?”—and, in its place, is an action movie focused on exploring Mulan’s empowering transformation from a expectant housewife to fierce fighter.

The plot remains the same as the original: it follows Mulan (now played by Liu Yifei), a Chinese woman who takes the place of her ailing father in the Chinese military by impersonating a male warrior, as she is technically unqualified to serve. The beginning of the clip shows Mulan prepping for an arranged marriage, where she is expected to fulfill the role as a “composed” and “graceful” wife; by the end of the trailer, however, Mulan is seen in full battle, wielding a sword and bow-and-arrow as she fights against a Hun invasion. “It is my duty to fight,” she says in the new clip.

The new adaptation will reportedly keep some and lose some of the animated film’s original characters, including a notable absence of her sidekick dragon, Mushu, originally voiced by Eddie Murphy. Initial reactions on social media are not pleased about the lack of music or Mushu, though many Twitter users remain optimistic.
