Chanel Metiers d’Art in Hamburg

- июня 13, 2019

Last December I traveled to Germany for the first time for ="https://www. chanel. com/en_AU/fashion. html">Chanel’s Metiers d’Art Show. The sky was overcast and grey, the wind was freezing. Beautiful christmas stalls and fairy lights lined the streets, with the delicious scent of freshly baked pastries and hot egg nog lingering in the air. I had no idea what to expect during my first trip to Germany, but I’m pretty sure this has to be one of the most magical times to visit.

For the first time, Karl Lagerfeld hosted Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show in Hamburg, his birthplace. A city full of architecture, we spent most of our days exploring its buildings and heritage whilst it gently rained outside. It felt incredibly romantic to be here, and I know everyone I spoke to felt the same way.

Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show was shown at the Elbphilharmonie, the newly opened concert hall overlooking the port of Hamburg. Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, the modern exterior is not nearly as impressive as its visually stunning and spectacular interior. I caught journalists, editors, buyers, VIP customers and basically every guest of Chanel’s tilting their heads up in awe, with their eyes scaling the walls and examining the sheer size of this stunning building as they filtered through its front doors and up the escalators towards the main hall.

Once inside, we were welcomed with the most breathtaking scene; layered balconies with hundreds of seats lining each were set around a 35-piece live orchestra below. Soon after the music began to echo through the hall and fill our chests, each model, dressed in exquisite looks inspired by Hamburg’s sailors and the swinging 60’s, began the daunting task of walking from the very top balcony, weaving their way through each tier until they finished on the grand stage below. The runway looked like a waterfall of exquisite clothes, one model after the other cascading from the highest tier of the Elbphilharmonie’s walls.

If a runway show could feel like you were witnessing a poem being written in front of your eyes, this would be it.

Thank you Chanel for this unforgettable experience.
