MBFWA19 – The Backstage Beauty Products We Are Adding To Cart From Fashion Week

- мая 14, 2019

There’s nothing quite like the madness and magic that is part and parcel of Fashion Week. As we wave goodbye to this year’s week-long extravaganza and marvel at the copious amounts of beauty and creativity seen runway-side, we have to wonder: what were the star products used by the makeup and hair directors that brought the shows to life? Lucky for you, we snuck behind the scenes to find out – presenting the seven hardworking hero products that were seen and loved backstage, and that we’ll be snapping up for ourselves ASAP.

Wet-look, fresh-from-the-pool hair was the order of the day at BONDI BORN where Wella creative director Renya Xydis created a spectrum of beautiful sheeny styles, from intricate twisted noodle-buns to slicked, half-up half-down ‘dos. All were sprayed with generous lashings of Glam Mist: it’s a super speedy way to add health and sheen to the hair. She shared: “The BONDI BORN girl is by the pool, relaxed, fresh and dewy. Glam Mist adds a high-shine finish to any style, pool-side or party with glamourous shine. We used this to add freshness and definition to the braids, knots and to enhance our slick-back ‘wet’ look. EIMI Glam Mist also protects the hair from the effects of humidity and UV.”

Apart from neon pastel pops of MAC shadow in buttery yellow, mint, tangerine and lavender on the eyes, the other beauty standout on the Bec + Bridge runway? The crimped, effortlessly sexy surfer girl hair. This is how Redken Hair Director Richard Kavanagh achieved a 70’s luxe look: “Redken All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil was used at the roots to control volume and the wave is created by plaiting the hair in nine sections and heating to set the shape,” he said.

Opening the entire Australian Fashion Week extravaganza this year, Aje provided raw beauty in spades on the runway. The perfectly pared-back hair and makeup looks allowed the natural beauty of the models to shine – including their smiles. Sparkling White Smile Teeth Wipes were the hot new product seen backstage – the on-the-go textured wipes are designed to remove the film that builds up on the surface of your pearly whites. Genius.

The rest of the effortlessly cool Australian beauty look at Aje was achieved with the help of Lancôme’s Absolue Precious Oil, which was mixed with foundation to a lit-from-within glow.

When your favourite swim brand creates a ready to wear Resort collection, it’s one of those moments where you look forward to the next season just to be able to wear these beautiful and seemingly effortless outfits. The Matteau show made a strong case for completely foundation-free skin. Thanks to Dermologica’s glowing skin care prep, the models had soothed and hydrated skin for that fresh-faced, ‘I woke up like this’ gorgeousness we are all aiming for. Up above, the mane was all sorts of resort-goodness, too – a post-beach, casual look was created with Oribe’s Beach Wave and Shine Spray.

A celebration of all things girly and summery (as is synonymous with We Are Kindred), Hair Director Marie Cain pared the ethereal outfits with soft, natural, girl-next-door hair. After waving the hair using a small tong to create undone waves and letting the locks cool, Cain went on to “give [the] hair a really good brush out with a soft bristle brush [and] allow fly-aways, keeping the hair fluffy.” Spritz with her must-have product: Redken Triple Dry 15 to finish off the look for those perfectly boho tresses.

For the luxe street-meets-sportwear brand, runway beauty started with stellar skin prep at P.E. Nation. An array of Deep Clean Cleansing Oils by Neutrogena were used to cleanse the skin, creating the dewy, sunkissed look for the girls at the show. It’s glass skin, catwalk edition.
