22 Chic Long Bob with Bangs

- мая 03, 2019

A long bob with bangs is a haircut that ends anywhere between the shoulder and collarbone and is styled with a fringe. One of the most classic hairstyles ever created, it makes women everywhere (and stylists as well) get obsessed with how customizable it can be.

Its versatility is just remarkable! Depending on your face shape, you can opt to make this cut unique for your needs and give the illusion you want to get a balanced and softened look.

Expert consultation is crucial to make this haircut work best for you. Take note of your face shape, facial features you want to highlight, lifestyle, and the level of commitment you can do for maintenance. The bangs play a huge role in this style because it can emphasize your eyes and frame and slim your face.

Bombshells Mila Kunis, Nina Dobrev, Vanessa Hudgens, and Gabrielle Union all took a different version of this hairstyle, and they all looked breathtaking!

Now, it’s your turn to work this impressive cut. Try one of these trendy long bobs with bangs for your next salon appointment!

Blow drying helps keep that body all day long. The edginess brought by the bangs and the mess is the right kind of punk and professional.

Change up your hair any day of the week by investing in bob weaves. Long bobs with bangs cover up the edges for flawless wear.

Lob for Thin Hair

Messy Layered Lob for Fine Hair

Cluttered hair does not always say disorganized. Sometimes it means having layers and building body for your gorgeous, thin, pink hair.

Shoulder-Length Lob with Side Bangs

Not quite long, not quite short. Ah, mid-length looks about right. Full side bangs make this even chicer if you will.

How would you describe this look?

This is a textured long bob with bangs, styled in a classic way. My favorite part about this look is how the trendy cut and color meet a more classic styling technique. I also specifically love the color because my client felt 100% confident wearing it and was something I felt represented her style and that’s always what I’m looking for.

Any advice for someone considering it?

For anybody considering this color, I would say to be aware that it is high maintenance. It is totally a dual effort to maintain these vibrant tones. What I mean by this is: I would expect to be in the salon every 4-6 weeks, and adding professional grade products like hair masks, serums, heat protectant, etc. into your hair washing and styling routine.

Washing with cold to lukewarm water will help maintain these tones for longer, and minimal use of heat styling tools like curling or flat irons is recommended. As far as the cut goes, lobs are very versatile and depending on your natural hair texture (straight, wavy, curly, etc.). It may require more heat styling or less heat styling. It’s not for everybody especially if you live that low-maintenance lifestyle.

Balayage Blonde Long Bob

Q&A with style creator, Dante Pimpo

How would you describe this look?

This look is an unconstructed long bob with bangs. It has a warm base with a blonde balayage. The focus on this cut is movement and ease. It can be worn straight or wavy.

Any advice for someone considering it?

A client should understand that true style is not fixed with this hairstyle. This look is not for an individual who wants a predictable look. Humidity products and styling tools will determine the style, such as flat iron waves with a texture spray as a finish!

Long Bob, Side Bangs and Layers

Q&A with style creator, Madison Justice
Studio Stylist @ Balance Salon Spa in Tampa, FL

How would you describe this look?

I’m a huge fan of long bobs with bangs because they are low maintenance yet chic all in one. It’s a creative style that can fit almost any face shape and look different on each client.

Any advice for someone considering it?

It does not do well on coarse/tightly curled hair. It is more suitable for straight, medium density, or wavy hair. A quick flat iron curl or wand is all it takes to style an ultra layered/textured cut like this.

Asymmetrical Bob

Q&A with style creator, Noelle Weatherwax
Owner / Master Colorist / Curl Specialist @ Concrete Rose Salon in Santa Cruz, CA

How would you describe this look?

I would call this an extreme asymmetrical bob with razored layers and a side fringe. I love how it’s reminiscent of “scene hair” from the MySpace days but in a modern and sophisticated way. It’s dramatic and cool and still really beautiful. I love the versatility of a look like this.

Any advice for someone considering it?

To style, I would use a smoothing cream to ensure a sleek and shiny blowout (I love Arimino’s White Milk) and finish with a dry wax to piece it out and shatter it a bit. Blow dry up and away from the face with a large round brush to create soft movement and volume. This cut could be modified for lots of different textures and types of hair because of the asymmetry.

I would most recommend for straight to wavy hair with medium to high density. This would not be the best choice for baby fine hair without adding some extensions for added volume. It could also be a cool shape for curly/coily hair too, and it would just be a more 3-dimensional diamond shape.

This shape would be perfect to elongate a round or heart-shaped face because of the dramatic angle and length around the face and the height added by the shorter layers. It’s a great cut to have the best of both worlds with short and long hair. It would best suit someone who has time to blow out their hair and whose personal style is in the more dramatic and glamorous or edgy. Someone who’s not afraid to stand out!

Blunt Bangs on a Long Bob

Q&A with style creator, Katie Bobbitt
Stylist @ Belle Époque in Kansas City, MO

How would you describe this look?

This is a sleek long bob with bangs which I cut shorter underneath into longer on top. This look is more for clients looking to add a little edge to the popular lob trend. She has finer hair with a fun beach wave that we play off a lot. This appointment we smoothed her out with Wow Dream Coat. My favorite thing about this look are those chic bangs she’s rocking! They always spice up a look.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Consider how much time you’re willing to spend styling it in the morning. Bangs are more maintenance but can be so edgy and fun. It’s a great way to change your appearance without making a big chop! The lob is so popular and versatile nowadays that anyone can rock it! Just have to ask your stylist what length works best for you.

Beach Waves Wavy Bob

Q&A with style creator, Brittany Houston
Hairstylist @ Salon Five Forty-Eight in Ottawa, ON

How would you describe this look?

This look is a medium one length choppy bob. It has minimal layering to keep fullness but lots of texture added to the length and interior of the haircut. The bangs are kept around eyebrow level with soft texturizing. The color is a color melt using violet based tone on tone color scheme. Color melting creates a smooth transition from dark to light. The cut is styled using a flat iron to create a wave in the hair.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Long bobs with bangs look great on curly or straight hair. It is such a flattering style on all face shapes because of the angle. The angle elongates the face. The bangs are super soft and because of the texturizing are easy to handle because they don’t have to sit perfectly to look amazing. Texture spray is everything for this style to create a low key “lived in” feel.

Choppy Layered Bob

Q&A with style creator, Kelly Wiesner
Hairstylist & Makeup Artist @ Caruso Hair & Esthetics in Pittsburgh, PA

How would you describe this look?

This look is trendy, modern, and a little bit edgy. My favorite thing about this look is the versatility. It can be worn sleek or with a “lived-in” finish and have a completely different vibe every day.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Make sure it fits your lifestyle and wardrobe. With a cut like this, you need a little extra time in the morning to make sure the bangs are styled. Along with the little extra time styling in the morning, this color requires maintenance every 4-6 weeks to keep it fresh and bold. As far as wardrobe goes, you want to make sure this cut and color will complement your look, not clash with it. One last piece of advice is that dry texture spray is this haircut’s best friend to achieve the perfect tousled waves.

Inverted Bob

Q&A with style creator, Alyvia Robinson
Master Stylist @ Lyv Loves Hair at My Salon Suites in Palm Harbor, FL

How would you describe this look?

Rich, sleek, and chic! I love the smooth modern lines of this cut and style! We embraced the flip-out from her hair hitting her shoulders in the grow out process, added extra texture through the perimeter during the cut to debulk, then did a flat wrap blowdry finishing by working the ends up with a small round brush, setting them with the cool shot on the drier. The rich depth of her base color paired with the extreme shine from a shades eq gloss really is just the icing on the cake in this ultra-shiny sleek lob.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Long bobs with bangs are so incredibly versatile and look amazing on most face shapes. The smallest tweak can add so much individuality and styling lobs are very user-friendly in the sense that they can be effortless or extremely polished. For instance, we decided to incorporate a soft swoopy side bang to reflect a polished professional look even if she decides to pull part of her hair back. Because we are in Florida and the humidity is totally against us here, we use Keratherapy smoothing argan oil and Keune Brilliant gloss spray to finish off this look but you could easily throw in some curls and texture spray and call it a day!

Lob with Short Bangs

Q&A with style creator, Danielle Davies
Freelance Hairstylist @ P&D Hair Cutters in Manchester, UK

How would you describe this look?

The color is natural but for the cut and style I wanted to create structure on the fringe. I wanted to add an edgy style that my client’s personality has but also give softness through waves.

The style goes with the way she dresses and the music she listens to! Being a Northern girl, it gives it that modern feel.

Any advice for someone considering it?

I would consider your fashion style 100%. A micro fringe can be pulled off by many people, and, in my opinion, it’s just the confidence that makes it attractive!

You can soften the fringe, sharpen the fringe, and also add texture so it can be personalized for anyone!

A-Line Bob Ombre

Q&A with style creator, Leo Telaku
Hairstylist & Colorist @ Salon Contrasto in Florence, Italy

How would you describe this look?

It is a strong and elegant look and, at the same time, two strong tone colors that can give sweetness to the face. The makeup is very important also on this look, as the soft pink around the eyes brings brightness.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This look can be used for any typology of clients. It can help to make the face look longer on those who have more of a round shape. The strong deep fringe is good for those clients who want to give more value to their face.

Blunt Bob

Q&A with style creator, Whitney Wachob
Hair & Makeup Artist @ Porcelain Hair Studio in Huntington Beach, CA

How would you describe this look?

This haircut is a blunt A-line bob with side swept fringe/bangs. This color is a rose gold gloss that washes out in just a few washes. It’s perfect for a weekend festival or special occasion! My favorite thing about this look is the pretty rose gold color because it is honestly very wearable for everyone! (Even guys!)

Any advice for someone considering it?

This cut and color may not look like it but it actually is pretty high maintenance! This long bob haircut looks its best when it is cut blunt and at an angle so you may have to get a trim more often if it grows out of shape. Same with the side swept fringe!

Make sure your hair is super healthy before you start. To achieve this rose gold color you will need to have very light blonde so having previous dark hair color isn’t ideal. After you have achieved this look you will need a good hair mask to use once a week for moisture and shine and a color safe shampoo and conditioner to keep up the color.

I always use a split end mender in my blonde lob clients because their hair tends to break easier so find yourself a good repairing serum and heat protectant and you are set!

Lob for Thick Hair

Q&A with style creator, Lindsay Porteus
Hairstylist @ Capricci Ricci Salon in Winter Park, FL

How would you describe this look?

When this client came in she had long hair in the back and all of these broken pieces around her hairline due to over processing. Yet she was still very brassy. My favorite part of this photo is where we started. She had several different bands for me to consider, so I did an all over on the scalp lightening process to get rid of her roots and then lightened her ends with different strengths to get out of the brassy tone to achieve an even one color blonde. Then, of course, tone tone tone!

The cut was super fun because she wanted an edgy look which helped me cut off a lot of her fried ends. The bangs had to be cut due to her breakage, and I honestly think it brought her to look to a new level. She absolutely is rocking it.

Any advice for someone considering it?

To bob or not to bob? That is the question. I do want to say that if you have any texture to your hair it may add more work to your morning routine. We all want how the actresses have their “messy” cuts, but that entails a full blow dry with a hot tool to create the slight curl and product. They didn’t wake up like that, nor will you.

Is it time to bang? Bangs are great! They are maintenance but if you ask your hairdresser to really show you how to style them it could be a game changer. They bring focus to your eyes and jawline. They also can cover a larger forehead (and those wrinkles we either refuse to get fixed or haven’t made the appointment for).

Everyone has to try a lob or bob once in their life! I do recommend to always use a leave in conditioner with a heat protectant. My favorite is the Kale Cocktail by Wow. You will be using heat to create all of these fantastic styles, so just protect the hair. Also for those bangs, a good round brush will do the trick. I love the brushes by Creative Hair Tools, and all the rage right now by Wow is the Dream Coat to fight frizz like a champ.

Curly Pixie Bob

Q&A with style creator, Andrea Ferreira
Hairstylist @ Clínica dos Cachos in Sao Paulo, Brazil

How would you describe this look?

This look with the disconnected ends and the side bangs give a lighter look without losing the charm. I like this mixture of the classic and the modern.

Any advice for someone considering it?

It’s a cut for those who seek practicality with style. It was used as a defining cream and a finisher mousse, conferring balance, volume, and definition.

The most important thing is for the client to feel well, to like her natural hair. My goal as a dry cut, curly, wavy, and afro hair specialized professional is to show the potential that each curvature, texture, and volume hold.

Angled Bob

Q&A with style creator, Kayla Whitley
Hairstylist @ Sleek Salon & Spa in Chesapeake, VA

How would you describe this look?

I absolutely love long bobs with bangs! I do many variations of it daily. If I had to describe this look with one word, I would call it directional! I consider any type of bob (whether it be long or short) to be directional. This shape (shorter in the back/ longer in the front) is designed to move hair toward the face.

Usually, with this style, I’m building weight rather than removing it. Some people like weight, while others (my thicker haired folks) will consider layering for more movement. This particular client has very fine/soft hair and stacking makes volume and fullness much easier for her to achieve, especially since her bangs do take away from the hair around her face. She uses her bangs to hide the shape of her forehead (as most people do).

Any advice for someone considering it?

I would say this look is a medium maintenance style. While it’s modern and trendy, it’s also practical and able to be pulled back if need be. People considering this style should acknowledge whether they want to keep enough length to pull their hair back still or if they’re comfortable with having to style their hair more often.

This length is still plenty for her gather into a cute pony, however, she does have a smaller head shape. Every person will be completely different. This is why it’s so important for people to understand inspiration may not be an exact replication. Photos help us understand what is expected on our end, but anatomy gives every individual their own unique look!
